How to set up the styles?

First of all we should know who is our target user since the design of the courseware that we develop is based on the user. 
Second is unity not uniformity. Unity is refer on how we combine raw materials into 1 screen. 
Thirdly is interface family which elements in an interface family must work both as a group and as independent. buttons and navigation options should be repeated among screen. 
Fourth is about layout. It also play an important role in visual design. It is include the position of buttons in the screen, graphic, image and so on. It should arrange well..
Fifth is interface elements. interface element is including background, windows (usually set aside to hold media) and panels (simply enhance the structural features of the design or depth or color), buttons and controls (need to be clear, controls are an opportunity to involve users in the content and to amuse and entertain them. 
Sixth is typography. should keep it simple with limit number of font per screen and per courseware also use the same fonts consistently. cannot change. it will distract user attention. Choose a good font styles and size.

this is my new entry for this week..such an awesomee!!!! sorry ye terlewat pulak nk update entry baru..almaklumlah tgh dok mencari ayat yg bombastic..bajet lah tp xde lah bombastic pun..bukan ape..saje nk nmpk kan entry nie gempak..hihi baru lah best nk buat santapan mata dan pikiran..senang skit nk hadam..huhuhu so, now kite masuk pada bahagian ilmiah ye..dalam previous class, my lecturer Dr. Norasykin xblh attend class..in fact Dr. dah inform awal..so utk kelas kali nie xde lah ase terkejut sgt bile lecturer lain yang replace her place.. so starting from that day till the end of the semester, Mr. Juhazreen will take over the class..as usual, bile we meet someone new of course lah kene ade sesi taaruf..so its just take about 10mins to get know all members. 

then, we start with the lecture with the new topic which is 'VISUAL DESIGN'. the first Q form my lecturer is what is visual? so, any have any idea? kalo for me, visual nie mcm image, video or such a graphic maybe..thats my opinion lah kan..hihi while from my lecturer perspective visual is sort of the thing that human or we as a human can see. in other words we can say that its an art which it can be seen by human eyes. senang dalam Malay word, rekabentuk visual nie adalah satu rekabentuk yang dihasilkan oleh pembangun untuk tatapan manusia..like painting n drawing..for example, pelukis..seorang pelukis ni ape yang kite tahu sgt kreatif..kreatif dalam menceritakan sesuatu peristiwa atau situasi melalui lukisan. dan setiap lukisan yang dihasilkan itu mempunyai makna yang tersendiri dan ianya adalah untuk tatapan umum atau manusia. yang membezakan visual design and art design for me visual is more to technological..but art design just prefer to canvas..next, we look on the criteria that constitutes good visual design. so, here we are discussing on how to make sure that design that we produce is a good design..

Actually there a several criteria that should be considered. 
  • image
  • color
  • contrast
  • typography
  • composition
  • line
  • texture
  • space
  • shape and etc. 
To create a good visual design, we should plan first. what we need to plan? macam entry2 yang lepas banyak yang my lecturer stressed out the important of planning. this class pun same..my lecturer also talk about planning. somehow kite rasakan yang planning nie buang mase je lambat..jalan je terus..tp sebenarnye planning nie yg banyak guide kite untuk siapkan keje kite dengan teratur dan akan nmpak keje kite yg lebih efektif. so, untuk case nie, ape yg kite perlu plan? here, we go through briefly on what we should plan..

  • color (warna apa yang sesuai digunakan untuk courseware yang kite nk develop ni? color nie should be sesuai dgn target user kite lah..)
  • font n styles (jenis tulisan, besar mane kecik mane, warna tulisan, bentuk tulisan tue sume kene pikir jugak..yelah kalo tulisan yang lingkor2 lebih tue susah user nak bace..kalo boleh bia lah tulisan bulat2..the other one, when we talk about font nie, ade dua kan serif and san-serif..mesti korg pk kan benda alah ape lah nie..hihihi ok, serif nie yg ade ekor..san-serif xde ekor..if on screen, san-serif font type is much better than serif..hehehe..xfhm lagi cube korang scroll down tgk diagram..)
  • pic nie i amik from wikipedia..
  • graphics and multimedia effects (untuk courseware yang kite nk develop for sure kite nk add on image photo sume bagai..so kite kene pkirkan jugak ape elemen multimedia yang kite nk integrate kan dalam courseware yang mane ianya suit with the user and parallel with the content..xmo lah contrast sgt content dgn image..contoh buat courseware bahasa melayu, tetibe ade image scientist dalam lab..huhu mmg xmasuk akal lah kan..hihi and satu lagi lepas dan consider image, graphic, effect yag nak dipakai, kene plan jugak layout mcm mane nk buat yg boleh nampak attractive to user. kalo x attractive mmg xmenarik minat user lah mcm tue..hihi)
  • arrangment pun penting jugak..(mcm lagu..kalo arrangment berterabur lagu xsedap..so same lah..kalo arrangment layout on screen ntah ape2..mmg xmemberi impak lah courseware yang kita buat tue..)
beside, background design jugak play an important role. ini adalah kerana background yang kita gunakan or apply dalam courseware kite should reflects the theme. color and image yang kita apply pun kene consider jugak..xbole men hentam je..it is same goes to foreground elements. it also should reflect the theme. untuk foreground nie its more to content and links. other than that, we also can use other elements to support the theme such as text, images, animation, button navigation bars and etc. but, it is not suitable if we insert a blinking text, blinking animation since it will disturb the presentation..the user not focusing on the content but that blinking things. ^_^..

Last entry we share an overview about interaction design rite? so, untuk entry nie I nak share mengenai INTERACTION DESIGN IN COURSEWARE DESIGN. ape yg I nak share dalam PART II nie adelah kesinambungan kepada PART I..cume bezanya adalah medium which ic interaction yang dirancang dan direka untuk courseware design. 

Xtually, there are about 3 basic elements in interaction design which are;
  • Organization
    • in term of organization, we should design on how the courseware's information would be organized. the arrangment of the information in the courseware will make user easy to understand on what we want to deliver. there are several process involve in organization. the processes involved are:
      • Possible content categories are listed
      • Grouped things based on the topic
      • Refine the topic groups
      • Arrange the groups into the structure
  • Navigation
    • the first Q: what is effective navigation?
      • will provide the user an enough location information so that user know where they are, where they can go, how the can be here, how to get back form the start and so on. It is all about the orientation. If the courseware design can answer all these things meaning that the courseware provide an enough and efficient navigation button.
    • the second Q: how to create an effective navigation system?
      • so, as what we are discussing in class, in order to create an effective navigation is we as a dvelepoer should use a uniform navigation button and all the button should be in every screen. such as home button, next, previous, quit button and so on. and the most important thing is all the buttons should working. bukan just letak untuk display je..hihi contoh navigation button ade kat bawah..please look at the diagram below..(diagram nie aq cedok kat google image je..hihi)

    • there are some critical task to do before place in the navigation button in the courseware. 
      • create a guidance system for users
        • intuitive and easy to use
        • orienting users within the information
        • introduce appropriate metaphors and organizing principles
      • design the navigation system
      • define what happen to each screen
      • design the controls for interaction
      • determine how much interaction is to be included.
    • Good navigation design will:
      • minimise travel
      • minimise depth
      • minimise redundancy
      • direct access
        • provide the simplest path between any two points in the product

  • Interactivity
    • design the controls for interaction.
    • the amount of the interaction is depend on the content of the courseware actually.

Interaction Design:

Its simply like we creating the behavior of technical, environmental and organizational system in response to its users over time. It is relate with the interactivity between user and systems.

Based on my understanding, interactivity is focusing on how we as a user control the pace, sequence of the courseware. yang paling penting, ape yang kite as a user nk lihat dalam courseware. secara kasar nye I boleh  ckp kan yang user boleh interact dgn courseware. like click on the button using clickable icon, drag and drop. in a simple way, user can do some activity via the courseware. not rather just sit and read. but can involve also with the courseware.

Ok now, after we get some ideas on what is interaction design and interactivity is all about, we proceed with the most important part in interaction design. that part is related with convert information to interaction. Here, we have to be CREATIVE!!!! hehehe as for example, kite dah ade topic yang nk di develop kan..so mcm mane nk convert info or knowledge yang kite ade ke dalam bentuk yang interactive..Let's scroll below tp find out how to convert it..^_^ info to interact it means like how we design the info turn to experience which can be going through by the user. why we do this? it might be can enhance user's motivation to learn on to experience the courseware, give them experience to explore the courseware by control the courseware that allow them to go where they want, create an interesting journey through the information and so on. But the Q is how????

the answer is STORYBOARD..xtually, for transformation the info or knowledge into interaction design, we should have sketch it in the paper as a draft or what we plan to do..thats what we call as a stroyboard. As a multimedia courseware developer should have this. there are a lot of storyboard's types. Dalam storyboard nie, designer akan explain on how to use the button, icons and other embedded interactivity yg ade pada interface as a guide for user. For instance;

hurm, hari ni im in a happy mood to update my new entry for u all to read..hihihi mesti banyak Q in ur mind kan nape tetibe arini i rase hepi semacam..actually masa aku tgh update new entry nie aku sekarang ade kat rumah..waaaaaaa best kan? kan kan kan..sape yg ckp balik umah xbest tue erm maybe something wrong somewhere. hehehe nak tau nape suddenly aku ade kat umah? actually smlm tanggal 14/03/2013, aku ade sesi interview di Suruhanjaya Perkhidmatan Pelajaran (SPP) di Putrajaya untuk jawatan Pegawai Perkhidmatan Pendidikan Siswazah Gred DG41..erm arini before aku cite ape yg aku belaja dlm previous class aku dgn bermurah hati nk cite sket pengalaman aku attend interview. hihi nie yg kali ke bape ntah aku i/v..x berape nk ingat sgt..tp nie kire interview first yang aku diinterview secara berkumpulan..satu kumpulan ade lah dlm 5 orang..erm duration time sesi iv aku and my frens dalam sejam jugak lah..tp sgt enjoy..nie lah aku ase interview yang paling santai yang pernah aku attend..xtau lah after nie ade lagi x sesi interview mcm nie..interviewer yang i/v aku ade dua..sorang cikgu cemerlang sorang lagi pegawai SPP berpangkat dato'. huhu secara rumusannye interview session aku nie sgt lah BEST!!!! Thumbs up!!!!..hehehe so, itu je lah cite aku berkenaan menghadiri i/v. hahaha 

ok, now aku nk update pasal kelas aku pulak..hehe if previous entry aku update pasal multimedia design fundamental kan? and at the end of the entry, aku ade state pasal 3 parts in multimedia courseware design kan? so, untuk entry nie for the first aku akan share skit info yang aku dapat from my lecturer and through my reading dengan korang berkenaan dengan INFORMATION DESIGN. so, my Q apakah itu Information Design? Jawapannye adelah jeng jeng jeng....From my point of view, information design is about how we design the content/information so that it can be easily understand by the user@audience. secara ringkas nya untuk develop multimedia courseware 2 most important things that we have to consider is content and graphics. so the content should be design properly so that it could be understand by user. for information design we should analyse the content/info based on the academic syllabus and through questionnaire which answered by our target user. the way we design the content in our courseware should depens on the level of difficulty. so it is easy for user to use it. in other words, Information Design is dedicated to make an information as effective as possible..

untuk information design nie, ade several process yang kite perlu consider. the process that should take into account as shown as in the diagram below..


Process of Information Design

Message : in this process, we should analyse what is the information that we as a developer want to share with audience. usually, information or content that we want to deliver to audience should meet the audience interest. 

Audience : we should know who is our target user that we want to share the information. since the way we design the content with a suitable graphics is basically depends on our user@audience. 

Purpose : in term of purpose, we have to know the reasonable reason we want to share the information to the audience. and should think on how to share and deliver it so that it could easily understand by the audience.

Background : should know audience background knowledge on that particular information that we want to share or discussing with them so that it may give them some ideas on the knowledge or info that we want to share or deliver. It is such an important. if not, it will contribute to a problem later. 

Structure : as a developer, we need to plan or organize the design structure on how to deliver the message effectively. it might be using flowchart, storyboard and prototype. 

as we know, entry nie adalah berkenaan dengan information design, so our discussing more focusing on the content of multimedia courseware. so, antara ciri-ciri info design yang ingin dimasukkan dalam courseware adalah:

  • tepat
  • tersusun
  • tidak terlalu banyak info dalam satu screen

actually, design yang paling best adalah depends kepada bagaimana sesuatu mesej atau informasi tue dapat disampaikan dengan baik dan berkesan kepada audience. so, we have to design well our info so that it can understand easily by user. pada aku lah kan, bukan mudah nk create or design info untuk memahamkan pengguna. kene banyak berfikir and explore. so, lets explore!!!!! ^_^

kalau kita develop multimedia learning courseware pulak, we have to conside learning theories yang kite nk gune. either behaviorism, constructivism, or cognitive. besides, we need to think or find out what are the suitable learning strategies based on the learning theory applied. all this things should take into account and it is depending on our target user. as for me, to develop learning package, we need to analyse first our user, what they need, the purpose of developing that MM learning courseware. All these things should come first before we start to plan and develop.

sorry ya kos im a bit late update my blog..hihi a little bit bz..ok now, for this entry i wanna update about lesson on the previous class..at prev class we are learn about multomedia design fundamental..first of all, what is multimedia courseware design? actually, from what i've read, multimedia design is a kind of a flow chart to show the information of the courseware..usually in designing the courseware it should have a storyboard to design the layout which shows a basic idea of the designer and a basic look for the courseware design..the purpose of multimedia courseware design is to persuade or inform the users our ideas on how the content is delivered and presented through the courseware..

in designing a multimedia courseware, there are two important things to be observed. first, content and followed by graphic.

in addition, ade 4 aspek yang mempengaruhi in designing mutimedia courseware. there are such as below;
  • content
  • technology
  • visuals
  • economics

but, almost every multimedia courseware has one flaw or another such as poor downloading due to the size of file, the design is too messy, less attract people attentions and so on..
therefore, in order to avoid such this matter, as a designer multimedia couseware, should have a better plan to make a couseware that meet the criteria as a good courseware which well structured, easy to navigate, quick download, more consistency in term of button used in courseware(standardize), involve user participations and etc..

last but not least, in multimedia courseware design, it is divided into 3 parts which are;
  • information design
  • interaction design
  • visual design

so, thats the info that i've learnt from my previous class..hihi so for the 3 parts of the multimedia courseware design will be continue on the next class..hihi soon i'll update the new entry for u all okeyh..ok guys..got to go..good nighttt!!! zzzzz...

ok..untuk entry kali ni, i would like to share the knowledge that i've learnt during my class. in the last class my lecturer talk about the 'Project Management in Multimedia Design and Production'. So the key that had been highlighted in line with this topic are as below:

a) Multimedia Development Team
b) Multimedia Project Management
c) Project Management Process
d) Project Management Tools

These 4 key issues quite important actually to be discuss. i'll try my best to explain it based on lecturer's note plus with lecturer's explanation and together with my understandings. 

Multimedia Development Team

Firstly, we talk about multimedia development team. For the first before we start to plan and everything, we need to form the team first. this what we called multimedia development team. the question is what is the criterion for this kind of team? there a re several criterion that should take into account to form this kind of team. the first is skills. in order to ask people or invite people to join our team, we need to consider his/her skills. what are the skills that he/she have? why we should consider this? because in produce any multimedia courseware especially, we required a creativity for a different activity that we are planning to do. sometimes we are required a high level of technical expertise in order to develop the courseware. so, that is the reason why we look for the variety of skills that have by expert. For example, for screen design, we should have a person who have a skill to design how the courseware will look alike which meet the need of the user. that is what we called as a designer. it is smiliar to the other task. so, here we could say that each task/job that had to be performed required its own skills. we cannot simply do the things without any skills and toward the end it doesn't meet the user of our courseware. actually, the necessary skills needed in the team are project mangement, content, strategy, programming, architecture and design. how much people u need in ur team it is depending on ur company project. maybe there is a project which require too much expertise and they should have a big team. in the team, it should has an expertise which related to their area. for development team, it is better to have project manager, content area specialist, instructional designer, multimedia developer/programmer, and last but not least is media specialist. Each of this position has their own role and job to do. 

For example, the role of the project manager is to attain or set the project objectives. It should have the objectives so that our project still in line with the purpose. as a project manager, he/she should plan carefully so that his/her team could deliver the right product in the right time as in scheduled and at the right price so it will be able to have by user. he or she also should monitor the other peoples in the team, always do a meeting to follow up the progression of the project and so on. 

As a content specialist, he/she will play his/her own role. here, people who is in this position should analyse the content which is suit with the target user. he/she will provide every written material to the project manager directly. but it is in term of digital format such in in MS Word or etc. he/ she also will review the content which had been designed so that the content is still there and could be understand by the user. that is important. content specialist is important especially if we want to develop learning courseware. they will provide and evaluate frequently so that it is parallel with the learning objectives. 

While the role of an instructional designer is to cover on the learning strategies and also the design of the content. with the content that had been provide by the content specialist, designer will try to transform it into a reasonable chunks. here i could say the information design would be transform into interaction design. so here, as a designer he/she should understand on how to organize, manage and deliver the info or content to create effective learning environment. 

And last is multimedia developer or in short we called as programmer. his/her role is able to integrate multimedia elements into one programs. sometimes his/her job is to create media element to be used in the project and so on. 


Multimedia Project Management

When we talk about project management, the issues raised are costing (how much we need to higher expertise, time needed to complete the project), timing (when the project's deadline, progress and so on), and about quality. it is such a subjective to specify but it might be quality in term of content, media, graphis and so on which related to the courseware project. 


Project Management Process

The process of project management is divided into 4 phase which are;
  • pre-production
  • production
  • post production
  • delivery

for the first phase which is pre-production, we should analysis, planning and design. in term of analysis, we should analyse who is our target user, what is the purpose of the project what kind of multimedia or software that we are going to use and how to organize and manage this project and etc. all these question should take into consideration at this phase. 

in production phase, the matters we will look into are:
  • content research
  • interface design
  • graphics development
  • animation development
  • audio recording
  • video production/editing
  • authoring/programming

while, for post-production, it is more to evalute the product after complete, test the content, get feedback from client, revise back the product, and last is put in into a packaging for the purpose of distribution. 


Project Management/Planning tools

what are the tools that we need for the project management? usually we need what we called a gant chart. the sample of gant chart i already post in the previous entry. the gant chart is important since it will shows us the timeline of the project progress. it is also used as a benchmark for the project management. this is important so that all the team members know when their task to start and should end. Sometimes we have PERT which is PROGRAM EVALUATION REVIEW TECHNIQUE. so the tools is project management is depends on the what the project manager wants since he will decide the task period after meeting with a team members.
